In 1999, New York resident Nicholas White was trapped an elevator in the McGraw-Hill Building (Midtown Manhattan) for a total of 41 hours. In 2008, The New Yorker magazine uploaded a video to YouTube featuring the sped-up surveillance footage of the incident, accompanied by the song “The Storm Begins” by Jennifer Haines. When the video quickly went viral, The New Yorker wrote an article about White’s frightening ordeal (click here for article). White talked about the horrific experience on Good Morning America (click here for video), as well as with the Associated Press.
Below you can view the video as it was originally uploaded by The New Yorker. It currently has over 7.6 million views.
White continues to ride elevators in New York.
