A Phoenix woman suffered two broken ankles when the elevator she was riding in suddenly fell several stories, according to the Phoenix Fire Department.
Captain Scott McDonald says the accident happened around 7:45 Saturday night at the Embassy Suites hotel near Interstate 17 and Greenway Road.
“It was scary,” said one of the victim’s relatives, who asked to not be identified.
The victim’s 16-year-old daughter, Allison, tells ABC15 the elevator carrying her mom inexplicably fell from the third story to the first floor.
Allison and other relatives ran to her mom’s aid after hearing screams for help.
“She was saying ‘I’m stuck, I’m stuck,'” Alison said. “She was screaming.”
Allison dialed 911 and the Phoenix Department eventually rescued her mom.
Paramedics transported her to the hospital where Allison says she’ll stay for the next several days.
“It’s crazy,” said Allison. “It makes me wonder if they were doing what they should have been doing to make sure they’re safe.”
The hotel’s general manager did not return a phone call seeking comment.
